Trinasolar and HoloSolis Sign Patent Licensing Agreement to Accelerate European Solar Manufacturing
Strategic collaboration brings Trinasolar’s industry-leading TOPCon solar technology to Europe, supporting EU industrial goals, energy security, and technological leadership, and allowing to produce large scale modules and cells with the best technology.
2025.09.03

Trinasolar, a global leader in smart photovoltaic (PV) and energy solutions, and HoloSolis, the French-based solar manufacturing company, today announced the signing of a patent licensing agreement granting HoloSolis the right to use Trinasolar’s TOPCon (Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact) solar cell technology.

This agreement grants HoloSolis a license to practice Trinasolar’s globally recognized TOPCon patent portfolio in Europe, enabling the setup of a European production line based on high-efficiency, mature PV technology. It marks a major step in accelerating Europe’s energy transition and strengthening its solar manufacturing capabilities.

"This partnership with Trinasolar allows us to combine world-class technology with European manufacturing leadership," said Oliver Schultz-Wittmann, CTO of HoloSolis. "By obtaining this license, we ensure that our products are both innovative and aligned with global IP standards, offering reliable, high-performance solar solutions made in Europe.” Trinasolar's TOPCon IP portfolio includes some of the most advanced and foundational patents in the field, which gives HoloSolis confidence in the robustness and scalability of the technology. Access to this portfolio will allow HoloSolis to produce at large scale, low carbon, high efficiency PV panels in Europe.

The future HoloSolis factory in Hambach, Moselle, is designed to produce 10 million solar panels per year — a total of 5 GW annually — enough to power one million homes. The project is expected to generate over 2,000 direct jobs and bring major long-term industrial benefits to the Grand Est region. This agreement reinforces Trinasolar’s role as a technology leader and enabler, not only supplying cutting-edge PV products worldwide but also empowering local ecosystems through strategic collaboration.

“We are proud and committed to supporting the next generation of European PV manufacturing,” said Gonzalo de la Viña, President Europe at Trinasolar. “This agreement is more than a license — it’s a symbol of how global innovation can fuel local industrial strength. By bringing proven, high-efficiency technology to HoloSolis, Trinasolar is contributing to the development of a stronger and more resilient PV manufacturing ecosystem in Europe. We are thrilled to support local production and supply chain initiatives that align with the region's energy transition goals.”

TOPCon (Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact) is a high-efficiency, industrially proven solar cell technology recognized for its scalability and performance. Its maturity and manufacturing readiness make it an ideal platform for rapid gigawatt-scale ramp-up — a critical advantage for new large-scale production facilities in Europe.

"In just over a year, we have secured over €200 million in financing and achieved critical milestones, from permits and land acquisition to grid access and industrial design. We also received strong support from the market by receiving more than 20 GW of Letters of Intent for buying our production, enough to secure our first 5 years of production" said Bertrand Lecacheux, CEO of HoloSolis. "The partnership with Trinasolar is a strong vote of confidence in our vision to become a European industrial champion in solar, rooted in the region and aligned with European values."

The factory also promises significant territorial impact, with the potential to transform the economic fabric of the Grand Est region over the long term, supporting local employment and anchoring a resilient clean energy value chain.

While today’s announcement focuses on the patent licensing agreement, the two companies are in active dialogue regarding future areas of collaboration, including potential strategic initiatives to further strengthen Europe’s solar value chain.

About HoloSolis

HoloSolis was created in 2022 to reshore PV production in Europe. HoloSolis production of PV cells and modules will be an answer to the appetite of EU PV developers for European made panels created by the new European and National regulations. Thanks to its size, HoloSolis will bring a sustainable and competitive alternative of PV Panels currently on the market.

HoloSolis has secured all the permits it needs to launch construction of its plant in 2026:

  • 15 May 2024: signing of the land acquisition contract for the site in Hambach

  • 17 May 2024: signature with RTE for a high-voltage connection in 2027

  • 24 January 2025: building permit and environmental authorization obtained

  • No appeals registered, proof of successful local consultation

The project exceeds regulatory standards, particularly in terms of water consumption and discharges, with a strong commitment to industrial sobriety.
